I definitely *didn't* think Christmas trees just grew that way without help.

After doing this eight hours a day, day after day, you start to automatically see what you would cut off of anything, or anyone, to make them more tree-shaped. It's a little disturbing.

Hitchhiking on your comment... Back home I knew a guy who worked on a tree farm full time. He never switched arms while trimming like this and was hugely deformed. His arm and shoulder on his right side was absolutely ripped, looked like a body builder, but his left side looked like a skinny dude who had never thought to do any manual labor. I was always blown away that he would see that happening to himself and never change anything to correct it.

I've got the same effect after playing Katamari Damaci

This sounds like a macabre version of the Tetris effect.

Go for it become worthy of a shitty documentary

I would throw out my back and dislocate my shoulder doing this for 15 minutes.

There's got to be a term for this. Kinda like skateboarding and seeing everything as a ramp, or playing too much Tetris and seeing the shapes everywhere...

That sounds like the beginning of an amazing so-bad-it's-good horror movie

I keep thinking an upsized version of those pencil sharpeners we used in school would work well.

Reminds me when I play skyrim too much and start seeing lootable herbs everywhere.
I should start a new playthrough every spring, I'll notice all the flowers!

Haha! I've spent probably a thousand hours (over many autumns) trimming marijuana and then i mentally trim all trees I see anywhere for weeks afterwards

I know exactly what you mean after learning to start IVs. For a while there, the pokeability of someone's veins becomes a factor you measure as simply as their height

Hah, i notice i get the same impulse after playing certain video games too much. Like with Burnout, i kept on the lookout for places to make jumps, or after playing phantom pain, I keept on the lookout for shipping containers to Fulton.

I grew up working on a Christmas tree farm. Ive trimmed thousands and thousands trees this way, year after year. It takes about 6-8 years to grow a tree from a seedling, and depending on the variety, you do this several times throughout the life cycle of the tree. The knives are just long bladed knives that you use for a handful of trees, and then clean and resharpen — they get gummed up with sap pretty quick and dont cut well.

I never knew how many spiders lived in the trees until I got an untreated one. Little spiders hatching and jumping from my tree once in the warmth. I never had a real tree after that.

6 to 8 years and the trees are only like 50 or 80 bucks? That seems like a low yearly return.
